Boston University head coach Albie O’Connell has been suspended one game for actions following Saturday’s game, Hockey East announced today.
The Terriers lost to Massachusetts, 4-1, on Saturday.
Per a source, O’Connell’s suspension stems from his behavior following his postgame press conference and a subsequent hostile interaction with a UMass staff member.
O’Connell has since apologized directly to the UMass employee.
“We have high standards regarding the conduct of our coaches, and when they are not met, it’s important to properly address the situation,” BU athletic director Drew Marrochello told the BU Daily Free Press today. “We fully support commissioner (Joe) Bertagna’s decision.”
UMass declined to comment.
BU hosts Vermont for a pair of games this weekend. O’Connell will sit out the first of those games.
