Lowell’s Goransson will leave team for pro deal in Sweden

UMass Lowell defenseman Mattias Goransson will not return for his senior season, according to The Lowell SunGoransson has opted to play professional hockey in Sweden.

“He wants to play professional hockey,” UMass Lowell head coach Norm Bazin told the paper. “It’s an avenue he wants to take. He’s promised me that he’s going to graduate and I’ll hold him to that.”

The River Hawks also lost Ryan Lohin early, who signed a contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning earlier this month.

Goransson led Lowell in points among defensemen with 20 points. In three seasons, he totaled 13 goals and 43 assists from the blue line in 109 games.
