Malik Edmead commits to Merrimack for 2020

The Merrimack men’s basketball team received a commitment on Thursday from 2020 point guard Malik Edmead out of Deer Park High School (NY).

According to Verbal CommitsEdmead had offers from Merrimack and Bryant. Rivals posted that Edmead had interest Bryant, Holy Cross. Iona, Marist, Mount St. Mary’s, Stony Brook and Wagner.

Edmead scored his 1,000th point this past season as a junior, as he led his team in scoring (21.1 points), rebounds (8), assists (7.5) and steals (6.5) per game according to New York Newsday.

“He’s literally our version of Russell Westbrook,” Deer Park head coach John McCaffrey told Newsday. “He is that new type of athlete where he’s the best athlete in the gym, and you don’t usually see that in a point guard.”
