NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College men’s basketball program will host a nationally televised game next week as the Northeast Conference (NEC) announced on Wednesday that they Warriors’ Friday evening contest against Sacred Heart University at Hammel Court will air on CBS Sports Network.
Originally scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off, the game will now begin at 5 p.m. and air across the country on CBS Sports Network. It will be the program’s first nationally televised home game of their Division I era.
The CBS Sports Network appearance adds another layer to a headline-grabbing DI debut for the Warriors: Merrimack has been featured prominently in media outlets such as the Washington Post, the Boston Globe and theScore Sports app while also receiving prominent video coverage from College Insider and ESPN, including last week’s feature on College Basketball Live
The Warriors enter this week’s slate of NEC play tied atop the league standings at 10-2 with Robert Morris. Merrimack’s season has been headlined by the play of its senior trio of Juvaris Hayes, Jaleel Lord and Idris Joyner: Hayes leads the conference and the country in total steals, the star of Merrimack’s havoc-causing 2-3 zone. Lord is the Warriors’ leading scorer at nearly 11.0 points per game; he needs just 29 points to reach 1,000 for his career. Joyner has arguably been the team’s most valuable player, averaging nearly 15.0 points per game in NEC action.
Friday’s game time change will also affect the women’s basketball game against Sacred Heart, which will now take place at 12:30 p.m. at Hammel Court.
