Merrimack Men’s Basketball Traveling to Rutgers

The Merrimack men’s basketball program will travel to Rutgers next season to take part in the Rutgers Showcase along with Holy Cross, Central Connecticut State, and Miami-Ohio.

Rutgers finished this past season 20-11; Holy Cross, Central Connecticut, and Miami-Ohio were all sub-.500 teams this past season.

Rutgers plays its home games at the Rutgers Athletic Center, an 8,000-seat arena in Piscataway, New Jersey. The building has a unique design — it’s shaped like a tent — and it’s the home of the basketball programs at Rutgers as well as the wrestler and gymnastic teams.

The arena opened in 1977 and it’s touted as one of the loudest in college basketball due to the roof design and the sound-bouncing acoustics that are inherent within it.

The building is the former home of the New Jersey Nets, who played there from 1977-81. Notable concerts held at the venue include the Grateful Dead, Styx, R.E.M., The Roots, and Everclear.
