After leading his team in scoring for the third time in as many games, freshman attack Sean Black of the top-ranked Merrimack College men’s lacrosse team has now claimed his third Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Week award, which was announced by the league on Tuesday.
The Cheshire, Connecticut, native has now won three out of the league’s four top weekly rookie distinction this regular season; the only time he did not claim the honor was when Merrimack had a bye week.
Black found himself in familiar territory again in Saturday’s romping of 12th-ranked LIU Post. He set up four of Merrimack’s 15 goals and found the back of the net twice himself for a six-point outing. He has tallied no fewer than six points in any of his first three collegiate games with three or more assists in each of those outings. He also added a ground ball in Saturday’s victory, as well.
Not only is Black one of the NE10’s top playmakers in the early goings of the season – ranked second in the conference in total assists (13) – but he also is one of the conference’s top overall scorers with 20 points (7g, 13a) on the year, four back of the league leader.
He and the rest of the Warriors will stay in North Andover to wrap up a three-game homestand and open up their league slate against the College of Saint Rose this Saturday (March 17) at 1 p.m.
