NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – After playing major role in helping the sixth-ranked Merrimack College men’s lacrosse team post a pair of victories in league play last week, sophomore midfielder Tucker Schwarz (Tallahasee, Fla.)has been named the Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
A three-time NE-10 Rookie of the Week selection as a freshman last year, Schwarz brings home his first-ever NE-10 Player of the Week accolade after a sensational two-game stretch that saw him lead the squad in scoring and essentially willed the team to victory all by himself in one game last week.
Schwarz exploded for a team-high 12 points in two games last week. He led the Warriors with nine goals while also adding three assists. More importantly, one of those goals was the game-winner with just over a minute left in regulation in a 10-9 victory against Southern New Hampshire on Wednesday. In that game against SNHU, Schwarz scored six times – including all three of his team’s second-half markers – and added an assist to set a new single-game career high in scoring (7 pts). He added five ground balls, as well.
So far this season, the Tallahassee, Florida, native has appeared in all four games and ranks second on the squad in scoring (12g, 6a, 18pts). After being held to just one point in the season opener, Schwarz now has 17 points in his last three games and has recorded no fewer than five points in everyone of those matches.
Schwarz and the rest of the Warriors now set their sights on second-ranked Adelphi this Saturday. Merrimack will make the trip down to Long Island to face the reigning league champion Panthers in what will be a rematch of last year’s NE-10 Final.
