Belov Named NE10 Men’s Tennis Player of the Week

Senior Mikhail Belov (Krasnoarmeyskoy, Russia) was named Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Week on Tuesday following his strong start to the season over the weekend at the UConn Invitational

Belov paired with sophomore Alex Fedorov (Guilderland, N.Y.) to defeat Division I Sacred Heart University’s top tandem in the A Flight Doubles opening round, 7-5. The duo reached the second round before bowing out to the No. 1 team from another Division I institution, Quinnipiac University.

The lone Warrior to play in the A Flight singles bracket, Belov faced off against the Bobcats’ Kyle Alper. Merrimack’s top-flight option from last season was his opening set, but ending up dropping the final two (6-2, 3-6, 4-10).

Belov and the Warriors return to action this weekend when Merrimack heads to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Regional Championships to compete in the three-day tournament beginning on Friday.
