Sophomore Mikhail Belov(Krasnoarmeyskoy, Russia) of the Merrimack College men’s tennis team was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Men’s At-Large Team on Thursday afternoon after boasting a 3.90 cumulative GPA as an electrical engineering major.
Belov was one of the five Northeast-10 All-Conference selections this past spring for the Warriors, landing on the all-league third team at No. 1 singles. He posted an 8-1 mark during NE-10 singles, with seven of his eight wins coming at the top flight. He knocked off two regionally ranked opponents this spring, including the seventh-ranked player in the East.
The second-year player was an all-rookie selection as a freshman, winning all 10 of his NE-10 singles matches and improved his career league mark to 18-1 this year. He ended the regular-season on a six-match winning streak at No. 1 singles, prevailing in 12 consecutive sets during that span.
As a doubles player, the Russia native won 10 matches this season and now has 24 career doubles triumphs over two years. He posted a 7-3 conference record, splitting time between first and third.
Belov’s selection marked the second consecutive season that the Navy and Gold have had a representative on the Men’s At-Large Team. Vince Bellino ’15 earned that distinction last season, and became the first-ever All-American for the program as well.
