After a stellar performance in two events at the Bowdoin Invitational on Saturday, freshman Kenny Clarke (Oakland, N.J.) of the Merrimack College men’s track & field team has been named the Northeast-10 Conference Field Rookie of the Week, as announced by the league on Tuesday.
Clarke has now collected each of the last two top field rookie honors after hauling in the same award a week ago. He also was named the Corvias ECAC Rookie of the Week for the first time this season.
The Oakland, New Jersey, native competed in two events at the Bowdoin Invitational on Saturday. He began the day with a second-place finish in the high jump, a regular event for him this season, with a height of 6-foot-2, narrowly missing out on winning the event.
But he wasn’t done there. Clarke later made his collegiate debut in the long jump and took second place in that event with a distance of 6.57 meters, less than two inches off the top distance in the meet. Both marks were personal records for the rookie Warrior.
The Warriors will run twice next weekend, taking part in the Boston University Invitational on Friday before taking part in the Southern Maine Invitational on Saturday.
