Freshman Michael Cuesta (South Portland, Maine) of the Merrimack College men’s track & field team has been named the Northeast-10 Conference Men’s Field Rookie of the Week after his performance at the Gordon Kelly Invitational at MIT this past Saturday in the last week of the indoor regular season. The women’s 4x400m relay was also named the NE-10 Women’s Relay Team of the Week.
Cuesta earns his third weekly conference honor in his freshman campaign as he was named the NE-10 Track Rookie and Field Rookie of the Week back on December 14. The South Portland, Maine native performed well in two events for the Warriors at the Gordon Kelly Invite, highlight by a second-place finish in the triple jump with a 13.71m jump. He also posted a seventh-place finish in the long jump at 6.26m.
The women’s 4x400m relay team also earned its second Relay Team of the Week honor of the season, although the teams featured one different runner on each. This team of the week, consisting of junior captain Carly Muscaro (Ashland, Mass.), junior Olivia Downey (Melrose, Mass.), sophomore Kiana Weary (Brockton, Mass.) and freshman Mariessa Ricciardi(Holden, Mass.), posted the second-best time in school history (3:50.59) at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational at Boston University, finishing seventh in the field of 53.
Cuesta and the rest of the Warriors gear up for the NE-10 Indoor Championships on Saturday at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.
