Merrimack freshman forward Alex Jefferies has been selected in the fourth round (No. 121) of the NHL Draft by the New York Islanders. Earlier in the round, Merrimack sophomore defenseman Zach Uens was selected by the Florida Panthers.

Jefferies will play his first collegiate game this season. A product of Gunnery Prep, he had 69 points (33 goals, 36 assists) in 32 games last season.

Jefferies went as projected in the middle rounds of the draft after finishing as one of the top players in New England prep hockey last winter.

Merrimack recruit Mark Hillier and sophomore defenseman Declan Carlile could also hear their names called as the NHL conducts round 2-7 today.
