Andy Heinze retires as coach/GM of the Valley Jr. Warriors

Former Merrimack College forward and assistant coach, Andy Heinze, retired as head coach and general manager of the Valley Jr. Warriors, an EHL team based in Haverhill, Mass.

The Jr. Warriors announced on Friday that Wentworth assistant Ryan McGrath will take over Heinze’s role with the organization.

“Andy is one of the best guys that I’ve had the pleasure of working with for a number of years,” said Mark Kumpel, the EHL’s Director of Hockey Operations. “Andy was always dedicated to his players and did everything he could to put them in positions to succeed. Looking at just the history of the EHL, and Andy has helped over 50 players advance to collegiate hockey programs. Of course, the numbers stretch further back than the first year of the EHL, and I would like to personally congratulate Andy on a phenomenal coaching career.”

McGrath joins the Warriors after five successful seasons as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Wentworth Institute and four seasons in a similar position at UMass Boston.

“I’ve always been very impressed with Valley,” he said. “Their brand always represented excellence to me both at the youth level and at the junior level.”
