Merrimack forward Chase Gresock was named our 2019 TMR Rookie of the Year on Monday after receiving a whopping 89.3 percent of the vote.
The TMR Awards are yearly postseason awards voted on by readers of The Mack Report.
The Powell, Ohio native led all Merrimack players in scoring as a rookie, totaling 11 goals and 13 assists in 34 games. His 24 points as a rookie were the most by a Merrimack freshman since Brett Seney scored 26 points (11 goals, 15 assists) as a freshman in 2014-15, and since The Mack Report was founded 13 years ago, this is just the third time a freshman has led the team in scoring, as Gresock joined Seney and Stephane Da Costa (2009) in that category.
Gresock’s freshman season ranks as the fourth-best freshman season since the inception of The Mack Report in 2006, ranking only behind Da Costa (2009), Mike Collins (2011) and Seney (2015). Gresock is also one of only six freshmen to score 20 points in his rookie season since 2006, joining the aforementioned players as well as Jesse Todd (2009) and Jace Hennig (2015).
Gresock was also named Merrimack’s Rookie of the Year at the 2019 team banquet last week.
