Merrimack freshman defenseman Declan Carlile has been named the 2020 TMR Best Defenseman Award winner. The TMR awards are annual awards voted on by readers of The Mack Report.

Carlile is the first freshman to win this award since Johnathan Kovacevic in 2016-17. Carlile was also named the 2020 TMR Rookie of the Year this season.

Carlile finished his rookie season third on the team in scoring with 22 points (4 goals, 18 assists) in 34 games, finishing just three points shy of the program’s rookie defenseman scoring record (in the D-I era). Carlile’s 22 points also led all blueliners in scoring this season. Carlile had the best shooting percentage (9.5%) among defensemen this season.
