Defenseman Michael Rubin Commits to Merrimack Men’s Hockey

The Merrimack men’s hockey program received a Thanksgiving Day commitment from 2003-born defenseman Michael Rubin of the New Jersey Rockets 16U team.

Rubin had 38 points in 30 games (10 goals, 28 assists) for the Rockers 16U team last season and also had nine points (1 goal, 8 assists) in 25 games for Don Bosco Prep. This season, Rubin has appeared in eight games for the Rockets and has five goals and seven assists from the blue line.

Neutra Zone has Rubin rated as a 4-star recruit.

“Michael was a rock on the blue line for XHP Black as he played in all situations including the first PP unit,” scouts said at June’s World Selects Invite. “Showed great energy and jump on the PK as he had several good steps to players facing the wall and created clears off of them. Part of defending a lead toward the end of the game in a 6 on 5 and he had two huge blocks, one of which lead to a play in transition where his team scored on the empty net and sealed the win. He is positionally sound all over the ice and is overall a very smart hockey player.”

As a 2003 birth year, it’s likely that Rubin projects as a 2021 or 2022 arrival.
