Dennehy: Goalie Will Be Chosen After Practices

In a conference call with Hockey East media on Tuesday morning, Merrimack head coach Mark Dennehy was non-commital on his starting goaltender for this weekend’s Hockey East first-round playoff series with New Hampshire.

“We’re not sure,” Dennehy said when asked. “Practice is important for us, and we have two really good goaltnders in Colin and Drew. I think it will be something we will be lock solid on by tomorrow, for sure.”

Recent trends suggests that Drew Vogler, who stopped 49 of 50 shots over this past weekend in a sweep over Vermont, will be the man between the pipes on Thursday when UNH and Merrimack play Game 1 at Lawler Rink. However, over the past several weeks, the decision on goaltenders was not made until after the week’s practices were concluded. Prior to this past weekend, Vogler had split the last two weekends with sophomore Collin Delia for consecutive weeks.

Merrimack will wrap up its regular practices tomorrow before a morning skate on Thursday. It’s likely that the players will learn the Game 1 lineup tomorrow afternoon.
