ESPN Radio To Change Formats

According to a post on Boston Radio Watch, WAMG, better known as ESPN Radio (890 and 1400 AM feeds) will change formats within the next few days.

The BRW post indicates that ESPN Radio staffers were told of the decision on Wednesday.

The news comes just weeks after the station came to an agreement with Merrimack College to broadcast the hockey program. No word on how/if the change in formats will affect the station’s coverage of Merrimack hockey.

As of this posting, I’m awaiting a response from station officials.

ESPN, which didn’t own the station but was in a licensing agreement with station owner Waller Sutton, is slated to launch a new Boston-specific sports website on Monday.

***Update, 9:35 a.m.***

ESPN Radio’s Al Turner, the station manager, just responded to an e-mail confirming the change in formats.

  1. ESPN is launching a new Boston specific website on Monday. ESPNBoston.com to coincide with the start of the Pats season. They have hired Teddy Bruschi as a contributor. They probably wanted a larger affiliate in Boston to go along with the new website.
