Former Merrimack forward Mathieu Foget has signed with the Ottawa 67s of the Ontario Hockey League.

Foget informed Merrimack’s coaching staff late last week that he would not be returning after the semester break for the rest of his sophomore season. By signing with the 67s, Foget loses his remaining NCAA eligibility.

In 13 games this season, Foget had one goal and three assists. He made his OHL debut on Friday night in a game against the Oshawa Generals. Foget is from Orleans, Ontario, which is just a few miles from Ottawa.

This is the first time Merrimack has lost a player to Major Junior since 2005, when defenseman Jeff Caron left the team at the end of his sophomore season to join the Saint John Sea Dogs of the QMJHL.
