Former Merrimack coach, Chris Serino, passes away after courageous battle with cancer

Former Merrimack College head coach and athletic director, Chris Serino, passed away on Monday after a courageous battle with throat cancer. He was 63 years old.

Serino coached the Warriors from 1998 to 2005. In 2005 he took the job as head coach and athletic director at Malden Catholic High School, where he led the Lancers to their first Super 8 Championship in 2011. MC would go on to win the title again in 2012. While at MC, Serino was able to coach two of his sons who both played for the Lancers.

Prior to Merrimack, Serino served as an assistant coach at UNH as well as head coach at Northfield Mount-Hermon.

He was first diagnosed with throat cancer while coaching Merrimack in 2001 but was able to overcome the disease and return to the Merrimack bench.

He is survived by his wife, Robin, and his five sons.
