Former Merrimack men’s hockey recruit Matthieu Franche has signed a standard player agreement with the Oshawa Generals of the OHL. By doing so, Franche will be disqualified from NCAA competition under NCAA rules, which designates the CHL as a non-amateur league.

Franche, 19, de-committed not long after the coaching change was made in the spring. He was a member of the Smith Falls Bears of the CCHL during the 2017-18 season where he tallied three goals and 10 assists and 46 penalty minutes in 61 games played. The OHL is for players between the ages of 16-20.

Mathieu Foget left Merrimack for the OHL at the semester break two seasons ago, and aged out of the league at the end of this past season. Last month, he signed with the Allen Americans (ECHL) for his first professional contract.
