After leading the team in scoring as a freshman while scoring the majority of his points in league play, freshman forward Chase Gresock of the Merrimack College men’s ice hockey team has been selected to the Hockey East Pro Ambitions All-Rookie Team, as announced Wednesday by the league office.
Gresock becomes Merrimack’s first all-league rookie team selection since Mike Collins ’14, a one-time All-American and one of the top scorers in program history since the Warriors joined Hockey East, did so back in the 2010-11 campaign. A Merrimack student-athlete has now garnered some form of all-league recognition in each of the last three seasons after Gresock’s distinction.
Gresock was named Merrimack’s Rookie of the Year at the team’s banquet and was also named our TMR Rookie of the Year.
The rookie forward was a dynamic welcome to the Warrior offense in 2018-19, finishing with a team-high 24 points while playing in all 34 games. He led Merrimack with 11 goals while his 13 assists were second-most on the team. In 24 league games, Gresock averaged nearly a point per game (0.71) after producing over 70 percent of his total offensive production for the year in those contests (17 points, 9g, 8a). He also led Merrimack by a wide margin in shots on goal with 109 for the season (81 in league play).
As it currently stands, Gresock represents Hockey East’s seventh-best rookie forward in terms of scoring, while he was among the league’s most productive shooters in terms of total shots on goal throughout the year. On the national scale, Gresock’s points per game average (0.71) ranks in the top-20.
