Hockey East Power Rankings (1/13)

Every week, we’ll use the KRACH to come up with Hockey East Power Rankings …

Rank Team KRACH HEA Points
1 Boston College 384.7 14
2 Providence 250.7 16
3 Massachusetts 245.0 15
4 Northeastern 205.2 15
5 UMass Lowell 201.7 15
6 Boston University 128.3 12
7 New Hampshire 121.5 10
8 Maine 119.2 10
9 Connecticut 66.4 10
10 Merrimack 39.0 8
11 Vermont 30.7 1

THOUGHTS: Based on the current point totals and KRACH ratings, we can predict that Boston College, Providence, UMass, Northeastern and UMass Lowell are all in play for the top-four spots in the Hockey East standings (which would earn a home series in the Hockey East quarterfinals). Boston University, New Hampshire, Maine, UConn and Merrimack are all in play for the final three playoff spots, with Vermont appearing to already be on the outside looking in.

Merrimack’s KRACH rating is lower than the other four teams, but the Warriors have been able to put together a decent Hockey East record, earning points in five out of 11 games (3-6-2), which has kept them in the hunt. Merrimack’s Hockey East winning percentage (.400) is actually better than its overall winning percentage (.300).
