Merrimack junior defenseman Johnthan Kovacevic was named our 2019 TMR Best Defenseman Award winner after receiving 77.4% of the vote.

The annual TMR Awards are annual Merrimack men’s hockey awards voted on by readers of The Mack Report.

Kovacevic finished his junior season with 18 points (4 goals, 14 assists) in 31 games and signed an entry-level contract with the Winnipeg Jets following the season; he’s expected to make his AHL debut with the Manitoba Moose before the end of this season.

In 101 games over his three-year Merrimack career, Kovacevic totaled nine goals and 45 assists for 54 points.

This is the second time Kovacevic was named the TMR Best Defenseman after winning the award in his freshman season. Kovacevic was also named the TMR Rookie of the Year in 2017 and he becomes only the second defenseman to win the TMR Best Defenseman award in multiple seasons, following Karl Stollery who was a four-year winner from 2008-12.
