Matt LaMalfa, who has spent the last 11 years at Merrimack College as the Director of Ice Hockey Services, is moving to Mercyhurst where he’ll become the program’s first-ever Director of Hockey Operations.
LaMalfa is the latest former Warrior to join Mercyhurst, following former Merrimack associate AD Brad Davis, who took the job as Mercyhurst’s athletic director last summer. Ticketing and marketing manager, Will O’Leary, left Merrimack for Mercyhurst this past spring.
“I would like to welcome Matt to the Mercyhurst family,” said Mercyhurst head coach Rick Gotkin. “He brings nearly eleven years of experience and knowledge in the areas of hockey equipment management and hockey operations to our program. We are all very excited to have him a part of our team, and we are all looking forward to working with him as we begin to get ready for the start of our season.”
LaMalfa inherits the role equipment portion of his role from longtime equipment manager Mike Folga, who continues his fight with cancer.
While at Merrimack, LaMalfa was responsible for overseeing equipment and inventory as well as team travel, purchasing and internal operations. He also spent time assisting the equipment manager.
In September of 2008 as a freshman, I sent (what I’m sure was a very awkward) email to Coach D asking if there was any opportunities to work with the hockey team. I never would’ve guessed… https://t.co/70x7kB1j8d
