Malden Catholic’s Mike Iovanna commits to UMass

Malden Catholic junior forward Mike Iovanna (’94), who scored the game-winning goal in last month’s Super 8 final against B.C. High, has committed to Massachusetts. He’s slated for the incoming class of 2013. It’s not known whether he will return to the Lancers for his senior season or play elsewhere next season.

A linemate of BU recruit Bredan Collier and BC recruit Ryan Fitzgerald, Iovanna, a 6-foot-1, 200-pound winger, totaled 47 points (15 goals, 22 assists) this past season.

Not sure. I know MC was in on Collier and Blackwell last year.

Wade Murphy ranked in Final NHL draft rankings (142 NA Skater). Have to assume he’s coming in 2012.

Not necessarily. Last I heard (February’ish) the chatter was that he might want to stick around another year in junior to get stronger. He’s getting a lot of pressure from WHL teams, I’m sure, but a scout told me that the family seems committed to college.
