WAKEFIELD, Mass. – The Merrimack College men’s hockey team was all over the 2019-20 Hockey East All-Academic Team, as announced by the league Tuesday.
An impressive 22 players were named to the list, which is the third highest number in the 11-team league. Each student-athlete must achieve a grade point average of 3.0 or better in each of the two academic periods of the season to qualify.
Three Warriors, Ben Brar, Liam Dennison and Griff Jeszka, also achieved perfect 4.0 grade point averages, which landed them a spot on the All-Academic All-Star team along with 12 other players around the league. Jeszka and Tyler Irvine also received the Distinguished Scholar honor, which is given out to student-athletes that had a 3.0 or higher in each semester of four varsity seasons. Just 11 other players in the league received the honor.
Merrimack’s freshmen had a strong rookie season in the classroom, as a dozen first-year players achieved the benchmark.
The team also achieved a 3.54 overall combined GPA, which is an improvement from their already stellar mark from last season.
