Men’s Hockey’s Walsh Named Hockey East Co-Player of the Week

WAKEFIELD, Mass. – After the sophomore forward led the Merrimack College men’s hockey team to an upset win over #16 Providence, Liam Walsh was named the Hockey East Co-Player of the Week by the league office Monday.

Walsh scored a pair of goals in the first period Sunday against the Friars in Rhode Island, which included the eventual game-winner, as Merrimack claimed a 3-2 victory. He also fired three shots on goal, which brought his weekend total to six.

His first goal came just three minutes in on a 5-on-3 power play. Max Newton took the original shot from the high slot, then Walsh had a slick deflection that snuck into the near post. Just under 10 minutes later, he took a pass from Ryan Nolan in-tight and finished on his backhand.

Walsh has been a consistent force for the Warrior offense as of late, as he has racked up six points in as many games, which includes a pair of multi-point efforts. His hot streak now has him tied for third in team scoring with seven points on four goals and three helpers.

The weekly honor is the first of Walsh’s career.
