Merrimack and UMass Lowell partnered for a Thanksgiving tournament last season, welcoming RPI and Penn State to Lawler Arena and the Tsongas Center. The tournament is scheduled to move ahead this season with Bemidji State and Miami coming to play Merrimack and UMass Lowell over Thanksgiving weekend.
The weekend will mark Miami’s first trip to Lawler Arena. The teams have faced each other three times, with the last meeting coming in 2001. On Dec. 30, 1994, the Warriors played the Redhawks as part of a tournament at RPI. The Warriors also opened the 2001-02 season at Miami; Merrimack leads the all-time series 2-1.
Miami went 8-21-5 last season under first-year head coach Chris Bergeron, who was previously the head coach at Bowling Green.
The Bemidji game was confirmed after the Beavers announced their schedule this week. The Warriors last met Bemidji in 2018, splitting a weekend series at the Sanford Center. Bemidji State last visited Merrimack in 2003, when the Warriors and Beavers split a weekend series.
The Beavers finished last season 22-10-5 and were ranked No. 12 in the Pairwise when the season came to a halt in March.
