Merrimack defenseman Ryan Cook will graduate transfer to Niagara for the 2019-20 season; by utilizing the graduate transfer rule, Cook will be eligible to play immediately.

Cook appeared in all 34 games for the Warriors last season on the blue line, scoring one goal and adding four assists. In three seasons with the Warriors, Cook competed in 73 games and finished with three goals and five assists.

Cook, 24, will play only about 30 minutes from his hometown in Lancaster, N.Y.

Niagara was a young team on the rise in Atlantic Hockey last season, finishing 17-19-5 with a sophomore goaltender and a freshman leading scorer. Niagara’s top-four scoring forwards were all freshmen or sophomores.

The Purple Eagles finished sixth in Atlantic Hockey last season and advanced to the conference’s championship game, falling 3-2 in overtime to AIC. Niagara beat Canisius in the first round, swept Air Force in the quarterfinal and then beat RIT in overtime in the semifinals; five of Niagara’s seven playoff games were decided in overtime.
