Da Costa Suffers Serious Facial Injury; Season Likely Over

Former Merrimack College forward Stephane Da Costa, now with the Binghamton Senators, suffered a severe facial injury Saturday night against the Syracuse Crunch and will likely miss the remainder of the season.

Da Costa took a high stick from Mike Angelidis in the second period that appeared to break his nose, with blood gushing from his face as he immediately left the ice. The ice crew worked for over five minutes to scrape the blood from the ice before play could resume.

According to one source, Da Costa’s nose was actually “crushed,” and he was rushed to the hospital for immediate surgery.

Da Costa, who is under a two-way contract with the Ottawa Senators, has 58 points (18g-40a) in 55 games this season. He appeared in 12 games with Ottawa, totaling four points (3g-1a).

Da Costa’s contract with the Senators expires at the end of this season.
