Golf: Merrimack Places Ninth at Dartmouth Invitational Weekend Tournament

HANOVER, N.H. – Competing in a field that was comprised of mostly Division I programs, the Merrimack College women’s golf team took ninth place in the two-day Dartmouth Invitational Tournament, held this weekend at the Hanover Country Club.

Head Coach Nick Crovetti: “Our team played well both days and put together a nice opening tournament to the fall season. The freshman duo, (Alessandra) Ricigliano and (Jessica) Wagner, put up very solid scores today and should have a lot of confidence as we move deeper into the fall schedule. We now have to get ready for the D-II National Preview and our next three events are important D2 in-region contests.”

How It Happened
Competing against mostly Division I competition, Merrimack held its own, placing ninth overall as a team, shooting its lowest total two-day team score (636) in team history. The Warriors also placed a pair of freshmen in the top-15 overall.

Freshman Alessandra Ricigliano (Scarsdale, N.Y) was the top scorer for the Warriors, shooting a plus-7 (151 total strokes) over the two days. Her classmate, Jessica Wagner(San Diego, Calif.) was tied for 14th overall, shooting a plus-11 (155).

Ricigliano and Wagner both improved their scores on the second day of the tournament, with Ricigliano dropping hers from a 77 to a 74 and Wagner cutting her 80 to a 75 the second time around.

Senior Ali Reed (Westborough, Mass.) was consistent, carding a plus-8 (80) on consecutive days to finish 33rd overall in the tournament.
