Men’s Soccer: Merrimack Left Out of NCAA Field

With hopes of returning to the NCAA Tournament for a second straight season, the Merrimack College men’s soccer team’s season officially came to a close Monday night, as the Warriors were not selected as one of six schools to be apart of the NCAA East Region, as announced by the NCAA Men’s Soccer Championship Committee.

The Warriors were as close as possible to earning a berth in the NCAA Tournament after advancing to the Northeast-10 Conference Championship Finals. But No. 10 Southern New Hampshire took the title with a 1-0 decision in the Finals, meaning Merrimack’s hopes lie solely on an at-large bid.

“I am very proud of the players. It has been a incredibly rewarding season, and for me, primarily, because we graduated so many guys from last year and we have so many young players and no one expected us to be anywhere near we ended up today and I am extremely proud of the efforts from my players from top to bottom,” said head coach Tony Martone.

Merrimack finished the season with an overall record of 13-4-2 and a 10-2-1 in conference play. Graduating just three seniors, the Warriors will return the bulk of this year’s squad, which advanced to the NE-10 Championship for the second year in a row, next fall.
