Merrimack Names Aaron Bergeron Head Tennis Coach

Merrimack College has hired Aaron Bergeron as head tennis coach. Bergeron replaces Peter Arsenault, and will head both the men’s and women’s programs.

Bergeron arrives after spending 2013-14 at the University of Southern Maine, where he was voted the 2014 Little East Conference Men’s Tennis Coach of the Year. He led the men’s program to their first LEC league title and NCAA Tournament appearance since 2007, as the Huskies posted a 14-4 overall record and went undefeated in conference play. The women’s side also finished with a strong 8-7 record while qualifying for the playoffs in his first season as head coach at the collegiate level.

“Aaron is a great fit for our programs,” Merrimack AD Jeremy Gibson said. “He is someone who can inspire our student-athletes on the court with his passion, while providing the leadership and guidance to help them succeed in the classroom. He understands the importance of the student-athlete experience and embraces the values of Merrimack College and the Northeast-10 Conference.”

Prior to his appointment to head coach, Bergeron spent a season (2012-13) as the assistant coach for both the men’s and women’s programs at Southern Maine. He also doubles as the head coach of the girls’ tennis team at Gorham High School, a post he has served since 2013.

“I’m thrilled and feel so fortunate to become a part of Merrimack College Athletics,” Bergeron said. “I’ve always held a great level of respect for the perennial strength of the programs within the Northeast-10 Conference, and of course Merrimack in particular. I look forward to competing in the NE-10 once again and helping driven student-athletes grow and succeed on and off the court.”

Since 2008, Bergeron has also served as Director of Tennis Operations at Goose Rocks Beach Association, where he facilitates and supervises clinics, provides specialized instruction and assists in on-court conditioning training.

A graduate from fellow Northeast-10 Conference member Stonehill, Bergeron earned his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in May of 2012 and currently resides in Westbrook, Maine.
