NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – After anchoring the Merrimack College field hockey team to an undefeated, two-win week that was highlighted by stellar defensive play and even a bit of offense as well, junior defender Abbey Stacey (Sidney, Maine) was named the Northeast-10 Conference Defensive Player of the Week, as announced Monday afternoon.
Stacey, an every game starter for the Warriors on defense, was stellar in Merrimack’s 4-0 victory at Saint Michael’s last Wednesday and even better in the Navy and Gold’s 7-1 romping of Adelphi in their NE-10 opener on Saturday at home. The junior limited the opposition to just the one goal over a 140-minute span and, even more impressively, scored the first two goals of her collegiate career in Saturday’s victory against the Panthers.
Stacey has been a mainstay in the lineup for the Warriors this season, starting all eight games while helping the team post 2.10 goals-against average in the process. For her career, Stacey has appeared in 48 games with 43 starts and has totaled five points on offense with three shot attempts in that span.
Merrimack turns to the month of October looking to continue their momentum starting with a Tuesday trek to Franklin Pierce tomorrow (Oct. 1) before traveling to No. 3 LIU Post Sunday (Oct. 6) for a huge conference clash.
