MSOC: Rui Cardoso Named Northeast-10 ROTW

Merrimack College freshman Rui Cardoso (Bristol, Conn.) received the first conference honor of his career as he was named the Northeast-10 Rookie of the Week, as announced by the league offices this morning.

Cardoso appeared as a substitute in all three games that Merrimack played this past week. He notched three points on one goal and one assist to help the Warriors finish 3-0.

Against Molloy College last Monday the Bristol native scored his first career goal on a strike just outside the six-yard box. Five days later, Cardoso set up the game-winning goal in a 2-1 victory over Bridgeport for his first career assist. He sent a cross through the box and onto the foot ofAlexander Alleyne (Swampscott, Mass.), who flicked it into the back of the net.

The Navy and Gold have started 4-0 for the first time since 2010, and begin NE-10 play tomorrow on the road against Bentley University at 3:30 p.m.
