WXC: Merrimack Takes Fifth at Shacklette Invitational

Paced by top-10 finishes from juniors Kerry Phelan (Peabody, Mass.)and Kristin Schmidt (Athens, N.Y.), the Merrimack College women’s cross country team opened its 2014 season with a fifth-place finish on Saturday afternoon at the Schacklette Invitational, hosted by Saint Anselm College.
The Basics
Finish:
 Merrimack College (5th/9)
Location: Saint Anselm College | Manchester, N.H.
What They Said
Head Coach Chris Cameron: “On the women’s side, it wasn’t our best day, but we’re still not at full strength. I think once we get healthy, it’s a long season, and we’ll be fine. Overall I was disappointed but I know we have the talent to run a lot better and tighten up that pack, and when we do, we’ll be successful.”
