Softball Earns First Division I Win on Walk Off

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass.– The Merrimack softball team earned its first Division I win in the second game of the afternoon on a walk off hit by freshman Gabby Comeau to seal off the three run seventh inning for a 3-2 victory against St. Bonaventure. The team did not fare as well in the first game, falling 4-2 to Holy Cross.

Rapid Recap (Game One)

• Holy Cross took the first run of the game as Bailey Chavez brought in Kaci Neveling who worked a walk to open the contest. The Crusaders scored again in the second inning to hold a 2-0 lead.
• In the fifth and sixth inning, Holy Cross added a run in each to pad a 4-0 lead.
• Merrimack’s first runs of the contest came in the top of the seventh. Tiffany Mangiameli got aboard after being hit by a pitch and moved over as Courtney Lanpher singled to put two aboard. The duo were brought in on a double by Abigail Amato—her fourth of the season.

 
Rapid Recap (Game Two)

• The game was scoreless through five, as Bridget Soraghan and Tierney Fitzgerald of St. Bonaventure traded outs. Soraghan would end the afternoon with eight strikeouts.
• St. Bonaventure took a lead in the top of the fifth on a single with the bases loaded, bringing two in.
• Merrimack got to work right away in the top of the seventh, with Viviana Bocanegra earning a leadoff single up the middle. Zoe Driscoll-Sbar pinch ran for her, earning a stolen base and would advance to third on a pass ball. Elizabeth McCoy earned a walk to put runners on the corners for Nicole Koshes.
• Koshes rifled a single to center, bringing in Driscoll-Sbar and bringing McCoy to third. Mangiameli earned a bunt single to send Koshes over to second—loading the bases for the Warriors.
• After a pair of outs, freshman Gabby Comeau earned her walk off win with a single to left center, bringing in the winning run for Merrimack’s first victory of the year.

The Warriors will continue in The Spring Games on Saturday with a single game against Quinnipiac at 7 p.m. before taking on a double header on Sunday against South Dakota State at 9 a.m. with a 2 p.m. tilt against Ohio to follow.
