Softball Selected in NEC Preseason Poll

LEAGUE RELEASE

SOMERSET, N.J. – The Merrimack College softball team was chosen to finish ninth in the Northeast Conference preseason poll as announced on Thursday.

The Warriors return Tiffany Mangiameli and Amber Gibbons as graduate students this season, joined by seven first years as well as Franklin Pierce graduate transfer Ashley Conway. The team’s leading offense from last season, featuring Abigail Amato, Lucy Colarusso and Gabby Comeau all look to build on their 2020 efforts.

LIU was selected to finish first, garnering seven first place votes. Behind the Sharks sat Saint Francis University and Sacred Heart, both taking one first place vote. Mount St. Mary’s was slotted in fourth, Bryant put to fifth, and Central Connecticut took sixth. Rounding out the group is Fairleigh Dickinson in seventh, Wagner in eighth with Merrimack taking the ninth spot.

Playing a regionally-based schedule, Merrimack will begin NEC play with a home double header against Wagner on March 20.
