Merrimack’s Pernell Named NE10 Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Year

Merrimack College women’s track & field junior Michaela Pernell was named Northeast-10 Conference Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Year, the league announced Wednesday.

Pernell concluded an amazing indoor season, being named a two-time All-American in the 60m and 200m dashes at the Division II NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, earlier this month in Pittsburg, Kansas. There, she had a seventh-place finish in the 200m dash, while placing eighth in the 60m dash.

The junior won a pair of Northeast-10 Conference titles in the 60m and 200m events. She was named Most Outstanding Track Athlete at the conference championships back on February 18. She was named a NE10 Track Athlete of the Week four times and earned United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) two-time First-Team All-American status and All-Region honors. Pernell also won eight individual events this year, along with being a part of relay team that won the 4×200 event at a meet earlier this year.

The outdoor season for both track & field teams were set to begin last week, however, weather delayed that. The Warriors will now begin the outdoor this weekend at the Bryant Invitational on Saturday, March 31 in Smithfield, Rhode Island.
