Merrimack’s Pernell Sets Sights on NCAA DII Track Championships

Merrimack College women’s track & field junior Michaela Pernell has her eyes set on a pair of National Titles when she competes in the Division II NCAA Indoor Championships in Pittsburg, Kansas this weekend. She’ll be competing in the 60m and 200m dashes.

It marks the second straight indoor season that Pernell will be competing at the NCAA Championships. Last year she was on the 4×400 relay team that finished fourth in the event, and earn All-American status. She also ran the 60m dash at last year’s event, with a 13th place finish in the preliminary round.

This year, Pernell has outdone herself. She has eight individual wins, along with a 4×200 relay win. She won Northeast-10 Conference titles in the 60m and 200m dash. She was named Most Outstanding Track Athlete at the meet. She has also been named NE10 Track Athlete of the Week four times this season, and also earned United States Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-East Region honors.

Pernell currently sits sixth on the 60m qualifying list heading into the NCAA
