How It Happened
The Warriors escaped from Manchester with a 3-2, five-set win over the Penmen.
Merrimack got off to a strong start, taking the first two sets 26-24 and 25-22. Afterwards, SNHU surged back by taking the third and fourth sets, 25-18 and 25-18, respectively.
In a back-and-forth fifth set, the Warriors prevailed 16-14 to win the match and capture their third conference win of the season.
Senior Stephanie Sheehan (Smithtown, N.Y.) continues to prove why she is one of the top players in the Northeast-10. The senior totaled nearly half of Merrimack’s kills (19), and notched a double-double with her 18 digs.
It was a balanced defensive effort for the Navy and Gold. Four players finished with at least 10 digs, led by Madison Burke (San Jose, Calif.) with 21.
Neither team led by more than one point in the final frame until the Warriors were able to capture the victory with the 16th point of the set.
