Davis-Stewart Named NEC Co-Player of the Week

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Senior forward Denia Davis-Stewart of the Merrimack College women’s basketball program was named Northeast Conference (NEC) Co-Player of the Week.  In Merrimack’s two games this week she averaged 20.5 points,16.5 rebounds, and 6.0 blocks.

On Monday night’s game against St. Francis Brooklyn, Davis-Stewart became the third player in the country to have more then one triple-double this season.  The senior forward scored 25 points, pulled down 18 rebounds, and blocked 10 shots in the win over the Terriers.  In the Warriors other victory last week, the Dorchester native scored a team-high 16 points and pulled in 15 rebounds for her NCAA leading 23rd double-double of the season.

There is no question that Davis-Stewart is positioning herself for a postseason full of awards.  The veteran finished the regular season as the NEC leader in points (18.5), rebounds (13.6), and blocks (4.2).  She also concluded the regular season with the national lead in double-doubles (24), rebounds (395), and defensive rebounds per game (10.9).  In addition, she ranks second in blocks (121) and third in blocks per game (4.2).

Stay tuned as more is expected from the Warriors this season. Merrimack is expected to continue play in the postseason in March, with more details to come on what college basketball postseason tournament that Merrimack will play in
