DeCesare Wins NEC Co-Rookie of the Week

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Freshman point guard Jayme DeCesare of the Merrimack College women’s basketball program was named Northeast Conference (NEC) Co-Rookie of the Week for the first time this season.  DeCesare averaged 15.5 points 5.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists in the Warrior’s two games against conference opponents. 

As the only Merrimack freshman to start every game this season, DeCesare is averaging 10 points per game and a team-high 3.5 assists.  The Rhode Island native is also shooting 39% from the field, including 38% from long range.  DeCesare leads the Warrior freshman in minutes played this season with 597 for an average of 28.4 per game.

Last week DeCesare scored her career-high of 19 points in the 80-54 win over St. Francis Brooklyn on Monday night.  The first-year guard went a perfect 3-3 from long range.  She also shot a season best 7-9 from the field in the Warrior victory.

The Warriors head to the tri-state area to take on Long Island on Saturday afternoon.  Tipoff is set for 1 p.m.
