NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College women’s basketball team was selected to finish fifth in the Northeast Division in the 2014-15 Northeast-10 Conference Women’s Basketball Preseason Coaches’ Poll, as announced by the conference offices this morning.

Last season, Merrimack finished with a 12-15 record (8-13 NE-10), advancing to the ECAC Tournament.

“Our focus continues to be on the process, improving every day, and being in a position to compete for a championship in March,” said head coach Monique LeBlanc. “We look forward to the great competition ahead within the Northeast-10 Conference, and representing Merrimack to our fullest out on the court.”

The Bentley Falcons, reigning NCAA and NE-10 champions, were tabbed as preseason favorites in the Northeast Division, totaling 103 points and 13 first-place votes. Stonehill landed in second place after 92 points and two first-place votes.

Assumption (74) and Franklin Pierce (69) precede Merrimack with third and fourth place honors, respectively, in the projections.

Southern New Hampshire (41), Saint Anselm (29) and Saint Michael’s (20) round out the Northeast Division in sixth, seventh and eighth place.

The Southwest Division predicted outcome was much closer compared to the Northeast. New Haven received the honor of preseason favorite after posting 84 points, including 10 first-place votes. Adelphi finished right behind the Chargers with 81 points and five first-place votes.

Third and fourth place belonged to Le Moyne (58) and American International (56), respectively. The bottom half of the division included Saint Rose (46), Pace (27) and Southern Connecticut (19).
