WEST WINDSOR TOWNSHIP, N.J. — On a day with gorgeous racing conditions, the Merrimack College women’s crew team kicked off the spring portion of its schedule with a second-place finish at The Knecht Cup at Mercer Lake in New Jersey on Sunday.

Head coach Dave LeFebvre: “We raced very well considering the time we’ve spent on the water so far this spring. I’m very proud of how the team competed, especially finishing close with Barry, who is currently ranked as the No. 1 team in the country in women’s rowing.”
How It Happened
The Warriors raced in the third heat of the qualifiers and finished second behind only Barry University, finishing 4.35 seconds behind the leader. Then, in the finals, the Warriors finished behind only Barry once again, finishing 11.39 seconds off the leading time.
The Merrimack lineup consisted of coxswain Jess Khoury (Bay Shore, N.Y.), stroke Aubrey O’Neill (Pawcatuck, Conn.), third seat Lydia Staschke (Guilford, Conn.), fourth seat Lauren Blazon (Lowell, Mass.) and Tasha Wypych (Wellington, New Zealand) on the bow.
Merrimack was racing in the Women’s Club DI/II Fours event. The heats were originally scheduled to take place on Saturday afternoon, but due to high winds in the area, both the heats and the final occured on Sunday.
