Golf: Jessica Wagner Named NE-10 Golfer, Rookie of the Week

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – After a stellar start to the spring season over the weekend at the Perry Park Spring Fling, freshman Jessica Wagner (San Diego, Calif.) of the Merrimack College women’s golf team has been named the Northeast-10 Conference Golfer and Rookie of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.

Earning her first career weekly honor from the league, Wagner picked up right where she left off in the fall as one of the more impressive freshmen in the Northeast-10 Conference, finishing 14th overall out of more than 140 golfers at the Perry Park Spring Fling in Kentucky. She finished with a three-round score of 231, the lowest among all Warriors.

The San Diego, California, native shot under 80 on all three days (78-74-79), while her second-day total tied the single-round low for any Merrimack golfer this season. This also marked the first tournament that saw her shoot in the 70s on all three days; previously, she had fired scores in the 70s twice in nine rounds during the fall season.

Merrimack will be off until April 11, when the Warriors travel to St. Louis to take part in the three-day Triton Tournament at Norwood Hills.
