GOLF: Merrimack wins Lady Penmen Invitational

NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Merrimack College women’s golf team earned first-place honors at the Lady Penmen Invitational on Sunday afternoon, at Lake Sunapee Country Club, in New London, New Hampshire. Merrimack placed the top-three individual golfers in the field, as the Warriors cleared second place by 31 strokes in the two-day tournament.

Head Coach Nick Crovetti: “The team bounced back from last weekend, with a very strong performance. They played some of the best golf I have seen in program history. I could not be happier with the way things are shaping up. This win at Southern New Hampshire University should bolster our confidence heading into the Northeast-10 Conference Championship, as we move into an important stretch of events.”

How It Happened
Freshman Krystal Knight (Groveland, Mass.) earned medalist honors for the first time in her career, as she carded a 76-73-149 ledger. The mark of 73 in the second round is the lowest-single round of her career and stood as the lowest-single round in the tournament. The Groveland, Massachusetts, native has competed in five rounds this season, while carding 70s in four of them.

Sophomore Alessandra Ricigliano (Scarsdale, N.Y.) came in second overall, with a two-round total of 154 (74-80). Coming in third overall was sophomore Jessica Wagner(San Diego, Calif.), as she fired a 155 (75-80).

Senior captain Jaclyn Drew (Lunenburg, Mass.) fired a 164 (82-82), while finishing in a tie for ninth in the field. Sophomore Samantha Monaco (Brewster, N.Y.) finished in 19th, as she carded a 173 (85-88). Junior captain Sam Gervais (Chelmsford, Mass.) carded a 178 (89-89) and sophomore Kristen Gamble (Manlius, N.Y.) posted a 200 (100-100), as the two finished 22nd and 31st, respectively.
