After shooting a two-round total of 158 to lead the Merrimack College women’s golf team to an eighth-place finish out of 18 teams at the Michael Corbett Fall Classic in Erie, Pennsylvania, on Sunday and Monday, freshman Krystal Knight (Groveland, Mass.) was named Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Week, from the league on Tuesday.
Knight finished 10th overall, while being the Warriors’ top-finisher, in an event for the first time in her career. She came out flying on the second day, as she fired a two-over 74 on the par-72 course, which shaved 10 strokes off her first-round performance and stood as the best round by any Warrior in the tournament. The Groveland, Massachusetts, native is averaging a team-low 77.3 strokes per round so far this season.
This marks the second-consecutive week in which, Knight has earned Rookie of the Week honors. She earned Rookie of the Week recognition on Sept. 9, after firing a four-over 74 and finishing second overall at the Southern N.H. Dual.
The Warriors will participate in their third event of the season, when they travel to New London, New Hampshire, on Saturday and Sunday, to participate in the Lady Penmen Invitational.
