After leading the Merrimack women’s golf team to a 309-346 season-opening victory against Southern New Hampshire this past Saturday, sophomore Alessandra Ricigliano (Scarsdale, N.Y.) and freshman Krystal Knight (Groveland, Mass.) earned Northeast-10 Conference weekly awards. Ricigliano was named NE-10 Golfer of the Week and Knight earned NE-10 Rookie of the Week honors, from the league on Tuesday.
Ricigliano shot a two-over 72 at Lake Sunapee Country Club in New London, New Hampshire, while earning medalist honors and clearing second place by two strokes. The mark of 72 tied a career low for Ricigliano, as she shot an even-par 72 at the Pioneer Invitational last season to conclude the fall. The Scarsdale, New York, native has earned medalist honors in back-to-back season-opening events, while being the Warriors’ top-finisher in all six fall events over her career, dating back to last season. She has now earned NE-10 Golfer of the Week recognition four times, while being named NE-10 Rookie of the Week four times as a freshman. The criminology major has competed in 10-fall rounds, while carding scores in the 70s on eight occasions.
Knight came out of the gates firing, as she shot a four-over 74 in her collegiate debut and finished second overall. Knight’s performance set a program record, for the lowest round by a Warrior making their debut.
The Warriors will participate in the Michael Corbett Fall Classic in Erie, Pennsylvania, on Sunday and Monday, against a field of more than 18 teams.
